P.S. Arts Spotlight on the pARTy! 2017

P.S. ARTS is proud to host another unforgettable evening in support of the arts in public schools. This one-of-a-kind, immersive event will be a unique blend of captivating arts experiences and live entertainment. Please join us at P.S. ARTS’ second annual the pARTy! for a night of joy and invention to improve public schools and the lives of 25,000 children.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the Studios at this year’s event!

Balthazar Getty
Balthazar Getty started DJing at 15 when famed DJ Mike Messex took him under his wing. By 16 he was already spinning at the hottest bars and clubs in LA. Balt was also focused on acting and music production. It is through his creative work that he is able to seamlessly blend different vibes adding layers of versatility to every set. A night could start with Lou Reed and Tribe, and end with Drake. Balt likes to take people through a musical journey by reading the crowd and trusting his gut. It was his work as a DJ that inspired his new musical project Balt vs Beats. Balthazar says, “…it feels like this is my time to step forward as an artist, not just the producer.”

Balthazar Getty will help us to close out the night with a live DJ set.

Hannah Keefe sponsored by Broken English Jewelry
For founder Laura Freedman, Broken English is a language unto itself: that which is meant, not said, representing moments and milestones in people’s lives. Each piece of jewelry is much more than a beautiful object; it becomes a symbol of the wearer’s own history. Broken English is honored to play a part in this process. Today, Broken English is synonymous with master craftsmanship and highly original design, and our customers know to expect a personalized level of service that is unique to us. Because of the close relationships we have with the designers and dealers we work with, we can offer access to the most special pieces- be it a rare stone or unique design, a custom creation, or a coveted antique collectible.

For $300, artist Hannah Keefe will hand-solder one of her beautiful bracelets onto you live at the pARTy!. Reservations are available online at psarts.org/party-tickets, but only 13 bracelets remain on a first-come, first-served basis!

Libertine
As the founding force behind Libertine, Johnson Hartig ups the ante in the fashion game by creatively immersing himself and those around him in a whimsical trip where old school classics meet new school know-how. Having first launched the label in 2001, today he continues upon his quest of single-handedly revolutionizing the ready-to-wear market for men and women: enter graphic illuminations teamed with sublime screen printing techniques and an avant garde approach to deconstruction by way of customizing recycled items, thus breathing new life into designs from yesteryear. Equipped with inspirations that ricochet between art, fashion, history, design, travel, culture, florescence microscopy cell research and canine appreciation, Libertine has cultivated collaborations with everyone from Damien Hirst and Goyard to Converse and even Target, a classic example of rewriting the rules via Libertine’s mindset, because after all, why shouldn’t high-end luxury mesh with mass appeal? Championed by the likes of Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld, today Libertine is internationally recognized as a brand with a surefire cult following extending from East Coast socialites to West Coast creatives and back again to a cross-section of celebrities ranging from Mick Jagger to Taylor Swift. In essence, the longevity of Libertine’s appeal spanning fifteen years in the spotlight is a testament to the talent of Johnson Hartig.

Johnson designed and crafted a one-of-a-kind camp shirt to be debuted and auctioned at the pARTy!.

“What I love about this activation and my body of artwork is the way it provides 3-5 minutes of intense connection between me and a complete stranger. It all began as a way to find life and meaning in an age of mechanical production. Every time a person sits down, I study their face, they watch me with amazement, and we have a beautiful little conversation where we talk about their experiences with sewing or drawing, my life as an artist, and why we’re at this crazy event. It’s really exciting to experience that so briefly, with a machine as a conduit, and then have them walk away immediately and never see them again. They have with them an artifact of that moment, something to remember an artistic experience rather than just a picture of themselves.”

You can see the artist in action in his talk at TEDxRVA 2013.
