We are thrilled to introduce our two 2019 summer interns! Leslie Torres is our education intern with the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program, and Stephanie Xu is our design and media intern with the LACAC Arts Internship program. We asked them a few “get-to-know-you” questions—see what they had to say!

Hello! My name is Leslie, and I am the education intern at P.S. ARTS (through the Getty Foundation). I am a senior at UCLA majoring in art history and minoring in visual and performing arts education (VAPAE). This summer with P.S. ARTS, I am developing accessible online P.S. ARTS To Go! and Family Art Night projects. I am also working on creating a museum resource guide which connects the communities P.S. ARTS serves to local museums in Los Angeles.

What book is currently on your nightstand?

I recently just bought Becoming by Michelle Obama so I am very excited to read it this summer.

What is currently the most played song you’ve been listening to?

The song that I’ve been listening to the most is “Lost In Your Light” by Dua Lipa featuring Miguel. I’ve also been constantly listening to the album “Malibu Nights” by my favorite band, LANY.

Where is your favorite place to view or take part in art in Los Angeles?

My favorite place to view art is definitely the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. It is the closest art museum to where I live that offers free parking and free admission with a student ID. So whenever I have the chance I’ll go and view some amazing artworks by Van Gogh, Picasso, Diego Rivera, and many more. I also enjoy viewing all the murals throughout Los Angeles which I believe displays the rich cultural history of the city.

What famous person, either dead or alive, would you choose to take out for coffee?

A famous person that I would take out for coffee would be Audrey Hepburn because she was such an influential fashion icon who used her platform to help others.

Hi! My name is Stephanie Xu, and I am the design and media intern here at P.S ARTS. I’ll be helping with conceptualizing and producing print and digital media, drafting social media content, and managing marketing assets!

What book is currently on your nightstand?

Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. I love how detail oriented and personal her writing style is. She makes characters really loveable, and every scene is written so vividly that you feel as though you’re there with the characters.

What is currently the most played song you’ve been listening to?

“Defender” by Rita Springer, but specifically the UPPERROOM cover!

Where is your favorite place to view or take part in art in Los Angeles?

I like museums, but I have an unfortunate tendency to get sleepy in them…so I prefer places like Little Tokyo where art is more incorporated into its surroundings and is an adventure to explore!

What famous person, either dead or alive, would you choose to take out for coffee?

Tori Kelly. I’ve been a fan of her music for a long time, and she seems like a great human being.

Thank you, Leslie and Stephanie! We are so excited to have you on as our 2019 summer interns. We look forward to hearing more about your projects this summer.
