CNCA-Burlington in MacArthur Park, CA is a charter school in the Los Angeles Unified School District and serves approximately 519 Kindergarten through eighth grade students. With the support of Principal Atyani Howard, as well as the community, parents, and teaching staff, CNCA-Burlington was able to initiate a bilingual program in 2001. The bilingual program uses the Spanish language that students bring to school as a vehicle to create bilingual and bi-literate students who value their linguistic and cultural heritage and are prepared for life in a linguistically diverse world. P.S. ARTS has provided arts education to CNCA-Burlington since 2000 and currently offers theater with Terence Williams and visual arts with David Partida.

Free or Reduced Cost Meal (FRPM) Program: This is a federal program administered by the US Department of Agriculture. Participation in the program is by application and is based on the income of the child’s parent or guardian. A child’s family income must fall below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify for reduced-cost meals, or below 130% of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify for free meals. Not all eligible children are enrolled in the program, so these numbers do not reflect all low-income school-age children. Currently, 73% of P.S. ARTS students are enrolled in the Free or Reduced Cost Meal Program.
English Learner (EL) Students: English Learner students are classified based on assessment procedures that determine they lack the clearly defined English language skills of listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing necessary to succeed in the school’s regular instructional programs. Currently, 45% of P.S. ARTS students are English Learners.
